The environmental impact analysis (Amdal) of PT. Meares Soputan Mining (MSM), an Australian company is rejected by the local legislative council and the Governor of North Sulawesi. Its presence is also rejected by the surrounding community.

There are 5 foreign banks that funded PT MSM, one among the others was WestLB AG from Germany in which previously funded the Toka Tindung project and now has cancelled its support. However, PT MSM still insists and lobbies the government to keep on its illegal mining operation.

 The company forces its mining operation in the area that has mega bio diversity, it borders with the area of Tangkoko Dua Saudara National Park which is one of the best tourism area due to its sea rich biodiversity. This area has supported tens of thousand of fishermen. This mining area is rejected because it is against the Spatial Plan of Bitung City which has stated Toka Tindung as protected area. The Amdal of the company has been rejected by the governor and the people around the mining area have refused it as well because of their concern to the impact of mining wastes. To force its mining operation, the company has done criminalization (SLAPP SUIT) to the activists and the surrounding people.

Support the people surrounding mining area to refuse PT MSM and the presence of irresponsible mining industry.

1. Four foreign financial institutions that give fund, which are the ANZ Bank of Australia, Investec, Rand Merchand Bank (RMB), and Sociaté Généralé France. Ask them to cancel or withdraw to fund PT MSM.
