NKRI & Regional Autonomy is Shallow in The Eye of The Candidates PDF Print E-mail
Candidate’s debate last night has indicated the shallow point of view from the candidates in seeing democracy, NKRI (Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia/United State of Indonesia Republic), and Regional autonomy, both in recognizing the problem and responds it. The three candidates were given meaning to NKRI as the fighting space restrictions, not the nation living space. Meanwhile, the regional autonomy is understood as a local administrative affair, not as a socio-ecologic reality of Indonesia as an archipelagic country, as well as the largest maritime countries in the world.

Last night (25/06), the NGO community consists of 43 NGOs in Indonesia have witnessed the presidential candidate’s debate round 2 organized by the General Elections Commission (KPU)  bringingthe theme of poverty reduction and unemployment. As suspected before, the candidate debate last night has a poor understanding on the problems of environmental and natural resources, Agrarian conflict, also condemnation in urban area and its relation with the effort of poverty reduction and unemployment.

Where are the Nine People's Issues? PDF Print E-mail
NGO community is a mix of 40 NGOs and non-governmental organizations and community organizations  whose concern on the nation improvement process, including welcoming the Presidential election on July 8th. The improvements process aimed at the 9th public issue, respectively: human rights, including justice for the victims of past violence and military conflicts; Environment and natural resources; state budget priorities; Mafia in justice court; Labor migrants, religious freedom and minorities; condemnation in urban areas; Agrarian conflict and indigenous peoples, also gender justice.

The 2009 Election is less than a month. Nothing is new. The Parties runs for the Election were busy promising for changes toward people’s welfare. Exactly the same with all the previous election. But in the field, the image of welfare is blurring, the crisis is deepening; debt and dependence on foreign countries is weakening Indonesia’s sovereignty. Throughout the last five years, Indonesia was neglected, indicated by the  shrinking responsibility and role of the state, shifted under private sector control (neo-liberalization).
