State oil and gas company PT Pertamina plans to build a gas pipeline through the Bangkiriang wildlife reserve in Banggai, Central Sulawesi. The works will be carried out by Pertamina's Exploration and Production unit overseeing the Matindok Gas Development Project in Banggai, Central Sulawesi.

UN Body Wants Mining Companies To Respect Rights Of Indigenous Peoples And Adhere To International Standards Of Corporate Accountability

MANILA, Philippines -- Some 85 representatives of Indigenous Peoples from around the world have arrived in the country yesterday to find effective ways in combating abuses committed by giant companies engaged in extractive activities, which they claimed are still grossly violating the human rights of indigenous peoples and contributing to severe destruction of the environment.

US Mining Giant Still Paying Indonesia Military PDF Print E-mail

JAKARTA, Monday March 23, 10:19 AM (AFP) -

US-based mining giant Freeport McMoRan is paying Indonesian troops to protect a large gold and copper mine in Papua, despite regulations requiring the military to hand over to police. The Arizona-based company said its local subsidiary paid "less than" 1.6 million dollars through wire transfers and cheques in 2008 to provide a "monthly allowance" to police and soldiers at and around the Grasberg mine.
